The Legend of Zelda - The Zodiac Masks
Skull Kids are the spirits of lost children given form. In Kokiri territory, there exists a dark forest known as the Lost Woods. It is said that men that get lost inside are doomed to become Stalfos, and children become Skull Kids.
Skull Kids have no faces, only darkness, glowing eyes, and wide, short, yellow, beak-like lips. The eyes are solid, glowing orbs of light, with the color varying to nearly anything based on the personality of the Skull Kid before their transformation. Their bodies can vary in texture, though its usually something unusual, such as resembling wood or marble. They tend to wear clothing and wide brim hats made from plants and straws, and some decorate themselves in things like flowers and skulls.
Having been lost before finding out who they would become, their new forms have no faces. Nearly all Skull Kids are bothered by this, and so seek out masks of all kinds to give them a face while they try to find out who they are inside. Almost none ever succeed at this lofty goal.
Children now belonging to the Lost Woods, Skull Kids are bound to the forest, never able to venture out. However, once in a great while, a child with a powerful willpower can break these shackles, leaving the forest to experience what life is really like. In rare and extraordinary circumstances, some of these Skull Kids can regain some semblance of a face, though it often requires incredible trials and tribulations.
They possess a love of music, and like talking to children, but tend to be terrified of adults, often fleeing immediately or attacking them on sight. They do not age, and some scholars speculate they are a variation of Poe that kept some semblance of humanity.
NOTE TO DM: IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ONLY ALLOW ONE SKULL KID PER CAMPAIGN, IF AT ALL, AS THEY TEND TO BE VERY POWERFUL.
